Easy Homemade Popcorn: Just as Fast as Microwave Popcorn and It Won’t Kill You

Raise your hand if you are still eating microwave popcorn.  Well you won’t be for long.  I used to buy the microwave bags of popcorn myself.  These days I know better.

Popcorn 3

As a child my grandfather would make it for us on the stove during our trips to Michigan to visit him.  He had one of those pots with the hand crank to turn the kernels.  He would put real butter on it and man was it the best popcorn ever!  It was always a great treat for us and we always looked forward to it during our visits.  I think my grandfather knew something I didn’t.

Why Microwave Popcorn Will Kill You?

While I can’t say that microwave popcorn will 100% kill you, there are potentially harmful and unhealthy ingredients in many varieties of the stuff.  Hydrogenated oils with trans fat, GMO oils like soybean and corn, artificial color and flavors, and not to mention the bag.  These microwavable bags are also usually lined with chemicals that we then eat.  Yuck.

I don’t know about you but I want to eat popped corn and not chemicals.  Now raise your hand if you agree!

Popcorn

I also think that it is worth mentioning that making delicious popcorn yourself at home is not only healthier and tastier, but it is also much cheaper.  A 3 pack box of popcorn can cost maybe $3-$5 while I can buy organic corn kernels in the bulk bin section of my health food store for less than $2 per pound.

Popcorn 2

You will be so excited for this next statement, “you can put real butter and fat onto your popcorn!”  No more low fat, light, or fat free popcorn that tastes like cardboard.  My popcorn contains healthy fats that will keep you satisfied.  Hurray for popcorn!  Movie night just got better.
