I am currently having a tea obsession moment. I was never a big tea drinker up until about a year ago. I have been reading about all of the health benefits of drinking certain kinds of tea, so I started drinking it to get that added nutritional boost. I was pretty boring when it came to tea and would just drink it plain, so sweetener or anything. It was really just that…boring. I was looking for a way to spicy up my tea drinking experience. I started experimenting and have even blown my own mind with how awesome tea is to drink. I guess you just have to make it right. In fact I have mostly stopped drinking coffee in the morning and instead drink a tea latte now. I know, crazy. Never thought I would be saying that.
I have been hearing so much about matcha and have always wanted to try it but just never purchased it. My grocery store finally started carrying a brand that looked really good. It was 100% matcha powder, organic, and reasonably priced (plus it was on sale). I knew it was time to give it a try. I’ll be honest it doesn’t smell that great so I knew I had to do something more creative then just add it to hot water. It is the holiday season and even coffee shops get in the spirit so the Peppermint Mocha Matcha Latte was born.
It you have never tried or heard of matcha then I am sure you are not alone. When you use matcha you are essentially using the whole leaf (which is stone ground) versus traditional green tea where you are just steeping the leaf in hot water. In turn concentration of the antioxidants available from drinking matcha is at least three times greater than the amount available from other commercially available green teas which are simply steeped.
Matcha contains several dozen times more antioxidants than blueberries, pomegranates, orange juice, spinach, or dark chocolate. Antioxidants are important for supporting a healthy immune system, fighting signs of aging, supporting a healthy digestive system, and keeps your brain and liver functioning well.
Need any more reason to try it? This Peppermint Mocha Matcha Latte will get you hooked.
